As always, we continue to acknowledge our parishioners and families for their monetary donations to the Cemetery. We deeply appreciate your generosity; these donations keep the Cemetery moving forward.
Grand Legacy Columbarium: During the month of October, 2022, the Grand Legacy Columbarium was placed at the Cemetery. Prior to placement, it was necessary to pour a concrete foundation, in which to place the columbarium. We are grateful to the following parishioners and businesses that donated their time, treasure, and material for the concrete foundation: 1) Mike Madsen, ground prep for the foundation; 2) Kelly Guido, Umpqua Sand and Gravel; 3) Darby Guido, Guido Construction; and 4) Jeff Lorenzen, Brothers Concrete Pumping.
In order to place the columbarium on the foundation, Kelly Guido stepped up and, once again, came to our rescue. Kelly brought his forklift to the Cemetery, capable of moving an 8,000-pound columbarium, and placed the Grand Legacy on the foundation. Thank you so much, Kelly, for your generosity and loyalty to our pioneer cemetery.
As a result of a monetary donation to the Cemetery, two concrete benches have been purchased from Cowboy Yard & Garden Center in Roseburg, and will be placed on the foundation. Once the two benches are placed, there will be a blessing of the Grand Legacy Columbarium by Father Manuel. More to come, concerning the date of the blessing.
Updated Cemetery Guidelines. The Guidelines document has been revised, effective February 22, 2023. The new columbarium has been added to this document. All four Funeral Home establishments (Roseburg and Winston) have been provided the revised document. Should you need a copy of the Guidelines document, copies are available at St. Joseph Parish office, as well as the Cemetery.
PLEASE NOTE: Per Father Manuel’s instruction and effective immediately, artificial flowers will be prohibited at the Cemetery. Between now and the Memorial Day Mass on Monday, May 29, a work crew will be assembled and all artificial flowers will be removed. Should you have questions or concerns, please contact the Parish office.
We continue to work on several projects for calendar year 2023.
Renumbering of the Old Cemetery. Renumbering the Old Cemetery did not happen during calendar year 2022. Terry Burt and I will be working during this year to renumber the Old Cemetery. This project is estimated to take several months to complete.
Gutter Guards on the Pavilion. We are in the process of purchasing snap-on guards, to be installed on the Pavilion gutters. This will prevent leaves from clogging the gutters and water spilling over on the new foundation, where the Grand Legacy Columbarium is placed. This will also alleviate a safety hazard of having to remove leaves from the gutters.
Trimming of Tree Branches Around the Pavilion. This will clean-up overgrown branches around the Pavilion and eliminate tree branches from hanging over the Grand Legacy Columbarium and foundation.
Reinforcement of the Pavilion Wall. Reinforcement of the wall on the side of the new columbarium is being discussed. Once completed, there will be a bench created for family and friends to sit during a placement ceremony.
Terry Burt and I look forward to our continued ministry and service to the communities of St. Joseph, St. Francis, and All Souls, assisting families in their time of need.
Best wishes for a prosperous and happy 2023. Elaine Rose, Cemetery Coordinator
